When we began developing Warcrow Adventures' rules, we had the feedback from our Infinity Defiance players very much in mind.
One of these elements was the time spent in moving Characters through the board when there're no enemies present.
Having to wait for the slowest player or simply going from one end to the other of the scenario could drag on forever when nothing's happening.
So we decided to streamline this aspect of the game to speed up the time between battles.
The first thing we did was to “automate” movement: rather than having to perform the “Move” action, Characters in Warcrow Adventures gain as many Movement points as their [Movimiento]Movement value at the beginning of their Activation. Completely free of charge.
We just assume everyone wants or needs to move.
Movement points in Warcrow Adventures
Movement points allow your Character to walk around and roam the scenario.
But the way you spend them is different if Enemies are present on the board.
If there are no Enemies
You may spend all your Movement points to place yourself in any free space in the tile you're in or in any free space in an adjacent tile. It's that straightforward:
Why wait 4 turns for the dwarf maiden to reach the door that we're all waiting to open? Why wait for your next turn to move out of that space you moved into in order to open that chest?
Can I move more?
Yes, of course. You can perform the [Acción]Run action, which again grants you as many Movement points as your [Movimiento]Movement value.
Points you can spend once again to place yourself in any free space in your current tile or one adjacent to it. But watch out! If you [Acción]Run before moving for the first time, you'll spend all your Movement points in one go and you'll only place yourself once.
If there are Enemies
When Enemies are present on the board, the mechanics surrounding combat strategy and tactics kick in.
Just like before, you'll earn Movement points at the beginning of your Activation.
Only this time you'll need to spend them one by one: for each Movement point you spend, you'll move to one of the eight tiles adjacent to you.
You can spend the Movement points at any moment during your Activation, both before and after performing any other action. Unspent Movement points are lost at the end of your Activation.
Your Character can cross spaces occupied by other miniatures, but they can't finish their movement there, nor perform actions in them. Entering a space occupied by an Enemy will cost you one additional Movement point.
Important:
If there's at least one Enemy adjacent to you at the beginning of your Activation, you won't gain Movement points (you'll have to perform the [Acción]Run action).
Let's see an example with our favorite Sÿenann:

At the beginning of his Activation, Darach gains 4 movement points because he is not adjacent to any Enemy. During his Activation, he decides to spend 2 movement points to gain LoS to the Marked adjacent to Ludivine.
Next, he spends his 3 [Energía]Energy cubes (resolving the triggers) to [[Acción]Attack the Enemy. Although he doesn't have any [Energía]Energy cubes left to spend, he still spends his 2 remaining Movement points going into the adjacent tile. And now he does finish his Activation.
There are other ways to move in Warcrow Adventures, such as: Displacing oneself.
Displacement
When some effect allows you to Displace, your Character may go to any adjacent free space without spending Movement points. Likewise, you may be able to Displace some other Character.
Displacement is a very important effect since it allows you to get away from Enemies or push away a teammate so that, when they become Active, they'll be able to gain their free Movement points without having to spend [Energía]Energy cubes for it.
Movement in Warcrow Adventures is a major factor to find a perfect space from which to attack your Enemies or apply the effects of your skills on your teammates.
Good combinations and synergy between Characters will be the key to surviving the horrors that threaten Hawthorn Point. To the mastery over time that we saw in the article on Initiative, we can now add mastery over space.
And so far this article is about movement rules in Warcrow Adventures.
